Chartres Street, upon which through more
than two centuries the horses, carriages, auto-
mobiles and slaves of many generations have
trodden, is one of the treats New Orleans offers
visitors in such abundance. The spires in the
background belong to the old St. Louis Cathe-
dral, which stands in the Heart of the Vieux
Carre, on the site of the Mississippi Valley's
first church.
