THE REDWOOD LIBRARY
This beautiful Colonial building houses a collection of
about 80,000 volumes. It was founded by Abraham Red-
wood in 1747 and was therefore the first public library in
this country. An anchor and three links of chain which are
situated in front of the building were stretched across the
Hudson River during the Revolutionary War to prevent the
British Ships from passing up the river.
