View of the business district bordering the State
Barge Canal and located at the southern terminus
of Lake Champlain. Known as Skenesboro in
Revolutionary days, it is famous as "Birthplace
of the American Navy" because here was built
the fleet which engaged the British at the Battle
of Valcour Island, 1776.
