Bombing Aftermath of Marine HEadquarters in Beirut, Lebanon

Americans were shocked to hear of the bombing of Marine Headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon, and were doubly overcome about the pictures of horrible devastation and days of hope- ful digging for survivors. Americans mourned the over 240 dead as they thoughtfully weighed criticism of security mea- sures versus Marine Corps orders to "keep a low profile." President Reagan bravely took the over-all responsibility for the incident, sending his stock soaring throughout the coun- try, and thus cutting off further Congressional wrangling.
