The Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) near Palo Alto,
California, is operated by Stanford University for the US
Department of Energy. The two-mile linear accelerator and
several electron-positron colliding beam facilities are located
west of the main campus. SLAC is devoted to world-class
research in high energy physics, particle astrophysics and
disciplines using synchrotron radiation. The laboratory
advances the art of accelerators, elementary particle detectors
and synchrotron radiation sources and develops new
techniques for their scientific use.
