International House, located at 1414 East 59th Street,
Chicago, is a residential center for foreign and Ameri-
can students. It was given by Mr. John D. Rockefeller,
Jr., at a cost of three million dollars, as a center for the
promotion of international understanding and world
peace through contacts among students from all parts of
the world. The House has 510 rooms, an assembly hall
with sound motion picture equipment, dining room and
cafeteria, coffee shop, social rooms, a library, and other
facilities designed to carry out the purpose for which
the House was established.
