The Ponce De Leon is one of the front
hotels forming the famous Alameda group, and
is named after the discoverer of Florida, who
landed near where St Augustine now is, on
Easter Sunday 1512. The hotel is of Spanish
architecture, built of shell concrete and ac-
commodates over 1,000 guests. It is 520 feet
long, faces 380 feet on the Alameda and covers
nearly 5 acres. A turret rises 156 feet.
