U.S.S. CONSTITUTION ("OLD IRONSIDES") Mickey's Boston Collection
Navy Yard, Boston, Massachusetts
When canonballs bounced off her oak planking,
the U.S.S. Constitution was nicknamed "Old
Ironsides". She fought pirates in the West Indies
in 1798, bombarded "The Shores of Tripoli" in
1803 and won important naval victories in the
War of 1812. Now a living museum of naval
history, the U.S.S. Constitution is on permanent
duty where she was built by patriots like Paul
Revere (who furnished the copper and brass
work) in 1797.
