THE FREIGHT WAGON
Thousands of these were made during the days of the early west and were able to
carry as much as 12 Tons of freight! Oxen or mules were used to pull them,
sometimes pulling even several at a time. The story goes that during the height of
the gold rush days, the road was sold with freight wagons and coaches strung out
from Sacramento to Virginia City, Nevada. If, for any reason, a wagon had to drop
out, the driver had to wait until night to regain a place in line.
