St. Saviour's Church, well known as an architectural gem, was built in 1869/70. Arriving from Yorkshire, England,
Rev. James M. Reynard was aghast at the 'lack of morals and worship' in the new gold-rush town of Barkerville,
B.C. and set out to build this church with zeal. After much struggle and dedication, he eventually rallied the people's
support to complete the church but, sadly, died soon afterward from ill health.
