Douglas Lodge is situated on the shore of Lake Itasca, source of the Missis-
sippi River, in Itasca State Park. In 1891, the State Legislature created the
park and it now comprises an area of some 32,000 acres. Henry Rowe School-
craft established Lake Itasca as the source of the Mississippi River in 1832.
