• The first driver in history to break 200 mph in stock car racing on a closed
course — Talladega, AL, March 24, 1970. Ran 200.447 in a Dodge Daytona.
• Won the fastest Daytona 500 in history – February 17, 1980. Average
177.602 mph in an Oldsmobile.
• 4-time winner at Alabama International Speedway (Talladega). Shares this
record with Darrell Waltrip.
• Winner of the Charlotte Motor Speedway World 600 — 1968, 1972, 1973.
• Winner of the inaugural Busch Clash – February 11, 1979.
• 19 Winston Cup victories; 17 super speedway wins.
• 29 super speedway Pole Position wins.
• Leading (8-time) fastest qualifier at Talladega.
