POTATOLAND SPECIAL
After a nineteen year absence, the "Potatoland Special" is the first
passenger train coach excursion over the Bangor and Aroostook
Railroad since passenger train operations ceased in 1961. The two day
excursion departed Northern Maine Junction, two miles west of
Bangor, arriving at Caribou via Presque Isle, the overnight stop.
Locomotive 57, an EMD model BL2, was renumbered to 557 and
repainted to the 1949 livery. Named "American Railfan", in honor of
those that make railroading their avocation, the 557 brings three open
window coaches from the Conway Scenic Railroad and a caboose to
Northern Maine Junction on Sunday, June 1, 1980.
