READING 2102
A doubleheader has a train load of enthusiasts passing through Shoemakersville, Pa.
enroute back to Temple during Railfan's Day on the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad,
June 29, 1986. Both locomotives are owned by the Blue Mountain & Reading, the 2102,
a former Reading locomotive, and the 425, a former Gulf, Mobile & Ohio locomotive.
2102 was built in the Reading Co. Shop in Reading, Pa. from a 2-8-0 Consolidation in
1945. The 110 foot Northern gained fame in the 1960's as one of the locomotives to
head-up the Reading Iron Horse Rambles. Pacific 425 was built by Baldwin in 1928 and
is one of the main-stays of excursion service on the Blue Mountain & Reading. On
occasion the locomotives leave home rails and run over the tracks of the former
Pennsylvania and Reading railroads.
