GEO. WASHINGTON BRIDGE AND LAKE UNION. The great new George Washington bridge and
the smaller Fremont bridge cross Lake Union at the mouth of a canal leading to Ballard Locks, and
thence to Puget Sound. Seattle has a large shipbuilding industry, and exports lumber products
and textiles. Its fine harbor on the Sound and its geographical location make the city a natural
distribution point for products from the Far East.
