historic shrine, was built in 1883
by Arthur Calvin Mellette, last
governor of Dakota Territory and
first governor of South Dakota.
Located at 421 Fifth Avenue
Northwest in Watertown, the
house is open from May to
October, each day of the week
except Monday, from 2:00 to
5:00 p.m., with a hostess in
attendance. Admission is free.

Kampeska Heritage Museum, located
in the former Carnegie Library Building
across from the Court House, contains
information and changing displays on
the history and development of North-
eastern South Dakota, a Hall of Natural
History, plus military information. Open
most of the
Codington County Court House, on first
Avenue SE, between Broadway and
Maple, was completed in 1929 for
$375,000. Constructed of Indiana
limestone
with Tennessee marble
interior, the rotunda's stunning vaulted
ceiling of Cathedral glass features two
paintings by Vincent Adoratti.
