ULYSSES S. GRANT was born at Point Pleasant, Ohio
on April 29, 1822, but was elected President from Illinois.
He was the nominee of the Republican party and on his first
election received 214 electoral votes, while he was chosen for
the second term by 292 electoral votes up to that time the
largest number ever cast for a President. He died July 23, 1885.
