OLD MESILLA, NEW MEXICO
A street scene of Old Mesilla, as it appears
today. It is believed that the first settlers came
about 1847 – however, it is recorded that the
first lands were allotted in 1850 by the military
commander of Dona Ana. At that time the popula-
tion of La Mesilla was 650 persons, and by 1860
it had become a social center.
