Since 1950 an annual International Pancake Race,
always on Shrove Tuesday, is between housewives of
Liberal and Olney, England. Racers must flip pancake
once at beginning and at end of race. The race was
originated by an Olney woman, late for church, who ran
to service carrying her skillet, flipping her pancake, over
500 years ago.
