KAMAKURA
"Kamakura" is the festival ob-
served on February 15 and 16
every year in Yokote City in
snowy Akita Prefecture. A snow
hut, which is also called "kamaku-
ra" and is dedicated to the God of
Water, is made here and there in
the city, and children play house
and eat in it sitting around a
charcoal brazier. When evening
comes, these snow huts, with
lighted candles inside, present a
world of fantasy.
