CHURCH OF ENGLAND, MORRINSVILLE, WAIKATO SOUTH,
N.Z. The first religious service for the new settlers was an
Anglican one taken by the Hamilton vicar in a house in
1879. Later services were taken by the vicars from Te
Aroha in the old schoolhouse, the first to be built in the
upper Thames Valley. Under the influence of the dynamic
schoolmistress Miss I. M. Roberts and on land given by the
Bank of New Zealand, later owners of the estate founded
by T. Morrin, a new church was built in 1895. When the
vicar could not come a burly bearded lay reader named
Chepmell conducted the services. His dog

with him and slept soundly in front of the reading desk.
