HIGH SCHOOL. This handsome and commodious structure
was erected in 1895 at a cost of about $ 250,000, and has
accommodations for 750 pupils. The first free high school
established in Fitchburg was in 1849. Wallace Way," the
stone steps at the right, leading to the High School and
connecting two streets, was a gift to the city by the late
Hon. Rodney Wallace; erected in 1903 at a cost of about
$ 30,000.
