Additional Details:
104 Theatre Street, considered the oldest building in Alabama, stands on what was originally the Fort Charlotte Reservation, which was owned first by the Spanish, then the French, then the English, and finally by the Spaniards again, who surrendered it to the United States in 1813. In 1932 the Fort was demolished and salvaged materials used to construct the first Jail and Courthouse in Alabama. Around 1845 the building became the residence of Jonathan Kirkbride. In 1940 it was bought by the Historic Mobile Preservation Society.
