APPLE VALLEY INN overlooking Apple Valley and Lucerne
Valley. Lucerne Valley was named by Jim "Dad" Gould-
ing who named it after the Mormon name of Lucerne
used by early ranchers for the word alfalfa. To the right
of the long range of hills in the background is Dead
Man Point. In the days when Holcomb was going strong
a miner came to Victor, later called Victorville, and spent
all his dust for drinks. After spending all his "dust" he
was given a bottle of whiskey and told to go home.
Days afterward a freighter saw the old fellow where he
died after he had laid in the hot sun of the rocks. To
this day the rocks are known as DEAD MAN'S POINT..
