THE NEW JEFFERSON STAMP
FIRST DAY OF PUBLIC SALE
SEPTEMBER 16, 1954
At the opening of the 153rd college year,
I extend the appreciation of the College to all
Bowdoin Alumni for their generous support of
the 1953-54 Alumni Fund, which in reaching
a total of more than $100,000, set a new
record for Bowdoin. The College is grateful
for each individual gift, and acknowledges its
dependence upon this alumni support.
This card bears the new 1954 regular issue
two-cent stamp, the design for which was
taken from the Gilbert Stuart portrait of Jef-
ferson which hangs in the Waiker Art Build-
ing. It is mailed on the first day of public
sale of the stamp in Brunswick, and I believe
it will be of interest to Bowdoin men as well
as to philatelists.
