Old Fort Loudoun, located between Chattan-
ooga and Knoxville, Tennessee. Built in 1756-
1757, it was Great Britain's southeastern out-
post in the French and Indian War, which
gave England possession of the eastern half of
North America. The Cherokee Indians besieg-
ed the fort in 1760 and starved the garrison @
into surrender. In the final days 25 men
were killed and the rest taken prisoner.
