The Walker, Ames House
Built in 1887-1889. From this stately Victorian mansion of
five fireplaces, the resident manager kept his eye on the
mill. William Walker, who sailed to Port Gamble from Maine,
occupied the house first. Edwin G. Ames, also of Maine,
later got the manager's job, Walker's daughter and the
house. With Pope & Talbot for more than 50 years, Ames
was a distinguished civic leader and collector of books and
recordings.
