Atop the bold promontory at the confluence of
the Sag and Des Plaines Valleys, St. James,
"The Shrine of the Poor Souls" occupies a
unique position among the churches of the
Middle West. Holy Mass has been celebrated
here since 1650. Father St. Cyr, the French
missionary, was the first pastor.
