NEWPORT OCEAN FRONT
Dorys line the water-front near the Newport Pier
where fishermen sell their catch taken by set lines.
This is one of a few fresh fish markets on the
pacific coast where one may buy direct from the
fishermen. Newport, known as McFadden's Land-
ing, was once the largest shipping point between
San Diego and San Francisco. McFadden had built
a pier, also a railroad road to ship lumber to Santa
Ana. The present y parking lot at the head of the
pier is where the engines switched around after
pushing the flat cars onto the pier. The railroad
went up through the center of Costa Mesa, one
reason for the wide streets in Costa Mesa, and on
the Santa Ana... M.P.
