Under the oaks in 1854, the numbering 100 (now only one of the historic Oaks remain), there was assembled 3,000 representatives from all over the state. David S. Walbridge of Kalamazoo, as presideet. There were present: Austin Blair, J.M. Howard, Frederick Chandler, Isaac P. Christiancy, Albert Williams, J.N. Turner, H.S. Bingham, Col. C.V. DeLand, Eugene Pringle and many others. The committee on platform adjourned to a clump of trees on the corner of 2nd St. and Franklin, presumably under the remaining Oaks. |
