North Bend - Home of William Henry Harrison
William Henry Harrison, ninth President of the United
States, was born in Berkeley, Charles City Co., Va., Feb.
9th, 1773.
He was graduated from Hampden-Sidney
College in 1790, studied medicine, then entered the army in
1791 as ensign, and rose rapidly in rank. On Nov. 22d, 1795, he
married Anna Symmes. Harrison was inaugurated in 1841,
and served as President exactly one month, dying of pleurisy
April 4th, 1841. He was the first Chief Magistrate to die
in office. His wife was at their home in North Bend, Ohio,
at the time of his death, and his remains were later removed
there from Washington. Mrs. Harrison died in 1864.
