THE STATE CAPITOL, dating from 1850, stands on
Capitol Hill, at the head of Dexter Avenue; it is in the
Grecian style of architecture, with a dome commanding a
magnificent view. Here the Confederate Government was
organized February 6th, 1861, and a star marks the place where
Jefferson Davis was inaugurated, on the front porch, February
18th, 1861.
