SURRENDER MONUMENT, now in the National
Cemetery of Vicksburg, originally stood where Gen. Grant and
Pemberton met July 4, 1863, to arrange terms for the surrender
of Vicksburg. This point is now marked by a Gun Monument,
the Surrender having to be removed for preservation from the
vandalism of tourists and relic hunters.
