COMMUNITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
in Half Moon Bay, California
The county's earliest place of public worship under
the American regime was St. Denis' Catholic
chapel. The oldest Protestant church (shown here)
is the Community United Methodist Church in Half
Moon Bay, built in 1872 and still in active use.
Its left wing, which was added later, was once the
Half Moon Bay station on the Ocean Shore Rail-
road. (San Mateo County Historical Association)
