| SLAC - Located in the hills to the west of Stanford's main campus near Palo Alto, its two-mile-long electron accelerator feeds high-energy beams to a variety of elementary particle research instruments including PEP, the mile-and-a-half underground ring. The Center is operated as a national facility by Stanford University for the U.S. Department of Energy. |
