On May 15, 1947, the 113-foot wide Erie Boulevard become one of the eight best lighted streets in America. With 15,000 lumen filament lamps and 82 lumijoules on twin standards in a plane parallel to the curb line, the GE installation provides 2.7 average footcandles over the entire street. The previously installed luminous arc lamps provided less than one-fourth as much light.
