The Library of the California Historical Society. 2099 Pacific Avenue. The John Hamilton Still Reading Room, formerly the drawing room of a residence built by John D. Spreckels in 1904, memorializes California's first bookseller. The 4-story Library building contains three reading rooms and modern bookstacks housing renowned collections on the history of Calfornia and the West, printing and publishing, and genealogy. This reading room was donated by granddaughter Mrs. William Ely Chambers. |
