Madam Russell Mamorial Methodist Church, Saltville, Virginia, named for Elizabeth Henry Campbell Russell, a sister of Patrick Henry. Her home stood a few feet from this church building. Bishop Francis Asbury was entertained in the Russell home during the time of the first Annual Conference West of the Alleghanies, May 13-15, 1788, which was held in the Keywood house approximately 3 miles Southwest of here. Mrs. Russell attended this Conference and was the first Methodist convert West of the Alleghanies. |
