Thomson Theatre of Electrical Science
MUSEUM OF SCIENCE
Boston, Massachusetts
This building at Science Park houses exhibits on electricity, including
the giant Van de Graaff generator, capable of producing up to 2½
million volts. In daily demonstrations, the lecturer sits safely within a
small Faraday cage, while 15-foot-long sparks travel to it from the
generator spheres. The theatre is named for Elihu Thomson, New
England inventive genius, who rivals Edison as an electrical wizard.
