  As a child, my sister and I spent every afternoon after 5:30 pm and all day Saturday raking the church and picnic grounds at Old Bethesda, setting up and washing the tables and dusting and sweeping the Church to prepare for Homecoming. Our grandfather (Make Pleasants) took on this responsibility as a nod to his mother (Belle Blue Pleasants) who was responsible for bringing the Homecoming services back to Old Bethesda. As youngsters, this wasn't exactly what we wanted to do but, once we got started, we really did enjoy it and we felt good when people commented on how nice the church and grounds looked. Time and relocation took us away from the church and Homecoming and we only returned a couple of times years ago.
