Organized in 1837 and considered the result of the
work of Bishop Asbury, pioneer preacher and organizer
of the Methodist Church in Western North Carolina. The
present modern plant is the third building to be erected
on the original location in downtown Asheville. Central
is one of the largest United Methodist Churches in
Western North Carolina.
