The Glasgow University is a handsome building in
the early Pointed style, standing in a commanding
position on Gilmorehill, overlooking the West End
Park. It was begun in 1867 from designs by the
late Sir Gilbert Scott, the foundation stone being
laid by the King, then Prince of Wales, in
October, 1868. It is rectangular in form, with
two quadrangles, the main front on the south side
having a Central Tower and Spire 150 feet high.
