The Art Galleries are the chief architectural
glory of Kelvingrove Park, a well-laid-out area of
91 acres acquired by the Corporation in 1852, and
added to from time to time. They were erected
in 1901 from the plans of Mr. John W. Simpson
and Mr. Milner Allan, at a cost of £250,000. The
building is 448 feet long and 256 feet wide. the
central towers rising to a height of 172 feet, and
in it are stored many famous art treasures.
