The Ferry. Lake Windermere, the largest of the
English lakes (5½ square miles), is crossed by two ferries.
The old one at Ferry Nab, where the lake is only 400 yards
wide, is worked on a chain and conveys horses and vehicles,
while the other, between Bowness and Ferry Hotel, is used
for passengers only.
