FORT WILLIAM HENRY, PEMAQUID, MAINE
Originally erected in 1692, was destroyed by the
French in 1696, reconstructed about 20 years later
as Fort Frederick, only to be leveled at the beginning
of the Revolution to prevent its capture by the British.
The round tower was restored after a lapse of almost
a century and is now part of a state park.
