GEN. MEADE'S HEADQUARTERS. George
G. Meade was born in 1815.
He graduated from West Point
in 1835, and was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Army
of the Potomac in 1863. During the battle of Gettysburg,
his headquarters was an humble dwelling standing on the
Taneytown Road and riddled by shot and shell. After his great
victory, Meade was made Brigadier General, and in 1864,
Major-General. He died in 1872.
