Public Buildings. City Hall, commonly called Public
Buildings, is of immense size, being 486 feet long, 470 feet
broad, and, to the top of the statue of William Penn sur-
mounting the tower (on the north side of the Buildings),
550 feet high. The Public Buildings cover four and one-
half acres, exclusive of the central court, the latter being
200 feet square. The circle of electric lamps about the
head of the Penn statue is visible over thirty miles at
night.
