EAST CEMETERY HILL is a continuation of
Cemetery Hill proper, east of Baltimore Road. This spot is
one of the few where hand to hand fighting actually occurred,
and no pen or tongue can portray the bitter fight on this hill
on July 3d, 1863, nor depict with any degree of accuracy the
horrible result after the battle, when Lee retreated across the
Potomac.
