MAIN STREET. The village of Yorktown is in many
respects the most important historic locality of the Revolutionary
War. It was here that the war came to a close with the
surrender of Lord Cornwallis and the British troops to Gen.
George Washington and the Continental Army, together with
their French allies. Yorktown remains to-day almost exactly
as it appeared a century and a quarter ago.
