THE OLD NELSON HOUSE at Yorktown, at the
time of the Revolution was the home of Thomas Nelson, the
"war governor' of Virginia, who sacrificed his entire private
fortune in defence of the patriot cause. During the siege of
Yorktown, Governor Nelson offered a reward to any gunner
who would throw a shell into his own dwelling, which was at the
time supposed to be occupied by Lord Coruwallis and his staff.
